Third Team bounce back with a win

After a draw in their opening match of the season, Towns third team succumbed to a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Crossways Spitfires, their third game of the season was due to be vs Wyke Regis FC, however the weather put a halt to this.

So, after a 2 week break the side returned to league action with an away game vs Okeford Reserves.

With first choice centre back Sam Husband unavailable and his usual partner James Duncan returning from injury, there were some changes to the back line for Town with Chris Ginifer and Player Manager Colin Judge stepping in alongside the talented youngsters, Jack Charlton and Charlie Mutton.

In goal Declan Critchell returned to the club, appearing in his first game this season. Craig Coles also returned to the club and in his debut would start on the bench.

Town started bright and striker Jake Weston was as lively as ever, causing problems for the Okeford defence. The midfield trio of skipper Simon Meadows, Seb Hughes and Joe Adkins bossed the midfield, leaving Okeford with only long balls over the top, which were comfortably dealt with. It was Okeford however who had the first clear cut chance on goal, a great run from the Okeford player saw him force an excellent stop from Critchell to keep the scores level, tipping the ball onto the post.

Town got the ball down and started to use the wide pitch to their advantage with Ryan Rice and Callum Butler being supported by the full backs both began to make inroads. Then came the opening goal of the game, skipper Meadows finding Jake Weston under pressure who finished with a delightful header, leaving the Okeford keeper with no chance.

Town continued to create chances in the first half but where unable to put them away, leaving them with a slender lead at half time.

Subs were made and Craig Coles came on to make his debut for the tired looking Joe Adkins. There were also changes out wide with Phil Aspden coming on to replace Callum Butler.

With the score at 1-0 town needed to push on in the second half and grab an early goal. There were few chances to speak of however in the early part of the half with neither team producing anything of note.

But then that man Meadows found Jake in behind again, an excellent ball in behind the back line from Meadows dropped over Weston's shoulder and he cooly converted with the volley, putting town 2 ahead.

Having set up 2 goals, Meadows took a well deserved rest with Joe Adkins returning to the midfield after a break.

Craig Coles was a menace second half and his persistent pressing resulted in a mistake at the back for Okeford, Coles finishing into an empty net. 3-0.

Substitute Phil Aspden came close to making it 4 with a tricky effort, the ball rolling across his body only for him to fire it wide.

Okeford created very few attacks in the 2nd half with Chris Ginifer winning every header that came his way, and Charlie Mutton sniffing out any attacks down his side. Jack Charlton was an excellent outlet for the team and handled any advances down his side excellently.

And then came the moment Jake Weston had been waiting for, Joe Adkins fouled in the box won a penalty. Jake Weston on his hat trick stepped up......only to smash the ball against the post and out of play.

He was not to be put off by this however and was desperate for his hat trick. Substitute Timmy Parker came on for Ryan Rice and his energy caused the tiring Okeford defence problems. He found Weston with an excellent pass and Weston finished with aplomb to complete his hat trick. 4-0

With the score going to 4 nil Town decided to ring the changes, new Assistant Manager Dean Ginifer coming on for hat trick hero Jake Weston and Manager Colin Judge coming off for James Duncan who returned from injury.

The game finished 4 nil to the town, an excellent performance and a clean sheet to go with it!
